Cooper is a down-on-his-luck writer who stumbles across a miracle pill that turns him into a genius. The trouble is that he must keep taking it. His supply is about to run out and he has to face up to the likelihood of returning to his brain-locked old self. The story is full of interesting possibilities, but gets butchered up with lots of dark stuff near the end. De Niro plays a corporate tycoon attempting to exploit Cooper's genius.
