The Descendants

Rating: 7
Starring: George Clooney, Shailene Woodley, Amara Miller
Genre: Adult Drama
Time: 1:55

Clooney is a successful lawyer living in Hawaii with two unruly daughters ages 10 & 17. His wife is on life support in a local hospital as a result of a boating accident. The doctor tells him her condition is hopeless. Since her living will dictate that she not be kept alive artificially, he has to pull the plug. The older daughter springs a big surprise by telling him that her mother has been having an affair.

Clooney sets out to find his wife's lover and learns the guy is a real estate agent who has a hidden agenda in his original play for his wife. It seems the agent hopes to gain from the possible sale of some valuable beachfront land which Clooney manages as a trustee for his cousins and him. The cousins are anxious to sell and get some serious money, but Clooney begins to have second thoughts since the property has been in the family for generations and is important to him and his ideals of the Hawaiian environment. The movie centers mostly on his developing relationship with his daughters and their acceptance of his wife's death. Clooney may be in line for Academy Award consideration for this one.
