Sarah's Key

Rating: 8
Starring: Kristin Scott Thomas
Genre: Adult Drama

Thomas is a present-day journalist who goes to Paris to write about the round up of Jews in the city more than 60 years after the 1942 event. She becomes focused on one family of a mother and father and daughter who were pulled from their apartment. The daughter had locked her young brother in a closet, out of harm's way during the round up. Thomas discovered that the parents had been sent to a death camp, but the daughter had escaped. What happened to her? Where is the young boy?

The story is complicated further by the revelation that Thomas's husband's parents had occupied that same apartment around the time of the Jewish arrests. Thomas becomes obsessed with pursuing this historical trail. Her own marriage situation is compromised. This is a gripping drama, well crafted. The characters are made believable.
