Helms is a small town insurance salesman attending a convention in the big city of Cedar Rapids, IA. Innocent and straight as an arrow, he eventually succumbs to the ribald life of fellow convention attendees such as Reilly. Make no bones about it, Reilly is there to have a party and to disparage the rah-rah goings on of the group culture, and he provides some good laughs. I liked the movie better during the first hour than in the latter part when it got a bit incredible.
