Cool It

Rating: 7

Genre: Mature Audiences, Documentary

Starring: Bjorn Lomberg

Published in 2007, Lomberg’s book is short and an important read. He makes the point that the world apocalypse conjured by Al Gore is unlikely and that his plans would be too costly and accomplish a small and uncertain result. Much less money could be spent to make this a better world by fighting malaria and AIDS and assuring a fresh water supply in the underdeveloped world. Lomberg has been skewered by the climate control imperatives of emissions reduction, which will not be undertaken in large scale by such as India and China who don’t want to limit their economic growth.

In this movie, Lomborg explains ways in which the world can attempt to adapt to the gradually rising temperatures through various more practical measures including more intensive R and D. The political consensus appears to be shifting away from draconian emissions controls and toward a more pragmatic approach to the problem, due in part to books like Cool It. In this movie, however, the production seemed a bit choppy and too much emphasis was placed on what many may view as science fiction. I was more impressed by the book than the movie.
