Like most musicals, this one is formulaic and predictable. It’s all about Aguilera’s singing and dancing. The plot is simple. Young girls leaves her dead-end waitress job in Iowa and heads for L.A. where she grabs a job serving cocktails at the Burlesque Lounge operated by Cher. Before long she is the lead performer on stage and is a big hit. Cher’s business is on the verge of being repossessed by creditors. Miraculously, all’s well that ends well. Cher seems a bit miscast as the kind-hearted mother confessor to all the stage girls. Lots of exotic dance routines and interesting choreography. Musicals have never been my favorite movie genre, but this one is OK and worth watching.
