Conviction
Rating: 7
Length: 1:49
Genre: Adult Drama
Starring: Hillary Swank, Sam Rockwell, Minnie Driver, Peter Gallagher
Based on a true story, Swank plays the role of Betty Anne Waters, a working class Massachusetts mother who gives up everything, including her marriage, to prove the innocence of her brother, who was sentenced to life for murder in 1988. She goes to college, then law school to represent him against one obstacle after another.
It takes 18 years before she finally prevails. Rockwell as the borther is not an especially sympathetic figure, and you begin to wonder if he is worth all her obsessive efforts. It would have been easy for her to give up. Swank again gives a superlative performance. The movie is worth seeing, although not completely convincing since it seemt to leave some loose ends untied.
