If a movie is judged by the extent it keeps my attention rivited, this one deserves a top rating. It has been highly acclaimed and was awarded the best foreign film. Set in Argentina, the story begins when a retired criminal investigator visits a former female colleague, now a judge, as he is attempting to write a novel about a rape-murder case in which both were involved 25 years before. The movie shifts back and forth in time. The two principals look pretty much like they did 25 years ago so it wasnt always immediately apparent where we were in time. The focus is not only on the crime and its aftermath but also on the latent romance between the two. There are some interesting twists and turns, but they are not too difficult to piece together. This is a good story with believable characters. It's the best movie I've seen in recent months. (w/ subtitles)
