The Blind Side

Rating: 8
Time: 2:05
Starring: Sandra Bullock, Quinton Aaron, Tim McGraw, Kathy Bates
Genre: Family, Comedy, Drama

An all-pro offensive lineman once said that if he needed to go into the witness protection program, he would want to become an offensive lineman. Michael Oher was a first-round NFL draft choice at this relatively obscure position out of the University of Mississippi. This is the story of his rescue from the projects by a well-to-do Memphis family. They take him into their home and he begins to grow both as a person and a football player. This is an interesting movie that probably will cause most people to exit the theatre with a good feeling, except maybe the critics. Entertainment weekly lampoons its "too-goodness" that is "irresistible to audiences." It's a shame that good movies appeal to typical movie-goers instead of critics who seem to resent occasional portrayal of "Conservative values." Sandra Bullock gives one of her better performances as the no-nonsense mom of Oher's new family. The movie is based on a best-seller by Michael Lewis.
