Genre: Adult Drama
Plot: Bates and Pfeiffer play aging courtesans who have acquired substantial wealth in their profession. Pfeiffer has quite a bit of lust left as she falls into an intense love affair with Bates' son, who is not quite one -half her age. Bates arranges for her son (a person of no obvious character or personality) to marry a young girl still in her teens. Pfeiffer moves away in a sulk while her former young lover still pines for her. The movie is set in elegant Paris around the turn of the previous century. Bates does her role well and Pfeiffer still looks good at age 51.
However, the movie doesn't have much else going for it. It's not easy to wish well for any of the characters, especially the son played by Friend.
