"Bad" Blake, protrayed by Bridges, is a country western singer who has seen better days. He is reduced to performing before audiences in bowling alleys and staying in second-rate motels. His best friends are whiskey and cigarettes until he meets Gyllenhaal in Santa Fe. At the end of a hard tour through the Southwest he returns home to Houston, and she comes to visit him with her 4-year-old son. Bridges manages to get drunk and lose him in a mall, whereupon Gyllenhaal decides she has had enough. His good friend, Duvall, persuades him to go into rehab. The movie has a believeable ending. Bridges is a strong candidate for an Academy Award, and justifiably so. This is a good movie.
