You may remember Ellen Page, who made a hit in “Juno”. Now she plays a 17 year old frustrated by the pressures of her mother (Harden) to force her into local beauty contests. Page sees a flier advertising roller derby tryouts. She is an instant success wearing the moniker “Baby Ruthless”. Her teammates don’t appear to care too much about winning, but are in it for a good time. There are many scenes of young women pummeling one another as they race around the track. This is Drew Barrymore’s first effort as a director, and it won’t start her on the road to the movie-making hall of fame.
