At age 17, Knightley becomes the Duchess as she marries the much older Duke of Devonshire,a very powerful man in the British royaly hierarchy during the late 18th Century.  She becomes known as the Empress of Fashion who decides to pursue an extramarital relationship as the Duke continues his womanizing.  He is a boorish tyrant lacking in communicative skills.  Fiennes plays this role to the hilt.  An interesting movie based on a true story.
