Wealthy scion of British nobility and middle-class art student meet at Oxford and form close friendship, which seems suspiciously like something more. Movie opens as Brideshead Castle, which theyoungstudent visited in happier times, has been turned into a WWII military camp. Story proceeds with flashbacks.

Emma Thompson is domineering matriarch who, in the end, has made everyone's life unhappy. Movie would probably have been better for me if I had been able to pick up all the dialog. As usual, British characters seem to specialize in mumbling in low voices.
