My good friend in Kansas City wanted to know if he should take his young granddaughter to see this one. The answer is yes. The movie is set in Cincinnati in the depths of the Great Depression. Plucky 10 year old
(Breslin) faces up to all the challenges, foreclosures, hobos, taking in boarders, selling eggs, etc. She manages to stay optimistic, and achieves her journalist goal. The ending, of course, is a sappy fantasy -- but what's wrong with this? It sure beats the hell out of exploding heads.
