Set in East Germany in 1984, Stasi targets playwrite and his girlfriend, bugging their apartment in hopes of obtaining incriminating information. Police captain, expected to pass on info to his superior, gradually becomes sympathetic and suppresses reports. Gripping drama revolves around the impact on these lives of all three with intriguing tiwsts and turns that are entirely believable, not seemingly contrived to suit Hollywood-like formula.
Outstanding move that held my attention throughout (English subtitles). Story carries to the fall of the Berlin Wall and past.
